These are my own personal gameplay tips that I have found work best for me in keeping my game running.

Recommended to Keep Saves from Getting Corrupted

After Initial Save file is created
Next Save - Use Save As and all saves after that
Using Save As versus just saving. Saves seem to get corrupted when it's overwritten so many times. Save As creates a new save folder and does not overwrite the previous Save.
My personal Save As time - I do a Save As after each (real life) hour, I do a Save As before entering Edit Town Mode, before Creating any new Sim, before Building. These little things have saved me from losing some pretty long saves that I play in.
For a Save Name I always add 01, 02, 03 and so on so I remember where my last save is
Once I'm done playing for a while now we have a save folder full of Saves
I take everything out and trash it except my last good save I want to keep playing from
I then run the NHD through Save cleaner
Clear my cache files
Start my game up and go
